Recently, a young man named Ram Gopal Mishra was killed in the violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. A photo is now circulating on social media, showing a young man adorned with a garland of flowers. Users are sharing this image, mistakenly identifying it as Ram Gopal Mishra and paying tribute to him. Vishvas News found in its investigation that the viral claim is false. The person seen in the picture is not Ram Gopal Mishra, but a journalist Raghavendra Shukla. Raghavendra himself has confirmed that the picture is of him and he is alive and healthy. What is the viral post? Facebook user Rajeev Tewary (Archive) shared this picture on a Facebook group named Valmiki community, on which it was written “Hutaatm Shri Ram Gopal Mishra.” Investigation To investigate the viral video, we first did a Google reverse image search of this picture. We found this photo in a post by a Facebook user named Raghavendra Shukla. Here he had said, “Don’t rush to pay tribute without recognizing the person. Someone wrote a poem about Ram Gopal Mishra from Bahraich but mistakenly used my photo from NBT’s author page alongside it. When Abhishek sent me a screenshot, I initially thought a few people had just made an error. However, after some investigation, I discovered that my photo has been widely circulated on Facebook and Twitter (X) in place of Ram Gopal Mishra’s. Thankfully, the name was added below, or this could have been quite alarming. The poem itself is also quite provocative. I want to clarify that this photo is not of Ram Gopal Mishra; it’s mine, and I am here right now. Friends can confirm this as well. If you come across my photo in any posts about Ram Gopal Mishra, please kindly inform them to use the correct image. “ Taking a cue from here, we searched for Raghavendra Shukla and found this photo of him on the Navbharat Times’ author page. According to the information available here, he is a senior digital content producer. We also spoke to Mukesh Pandey, in charge of Dainik Jagran in Bahraich, who confirmed that this picture is not of Ram Gopal Mishra, who was killed in the violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. The difference in the features of Ram Gopal Mishra and Raghavendra Shukla can be seen in the collage below. What is the case? On 21, October 2024, Dainik Jagran’s website reported that during an idol immersion procession on 13 October, 2024 in Maharajganj, Bahraich, violence erupted, leading to the murder of Ram Gopal Mishra. A case has been registered against 1,304 people in connection with this incident. Additionally, notices were issued to those involved in illegal encroachments in Maharajganj, asking them to respond within three days. However, the High Court extended the response period to 15 days. We scanned the profile of the Facebook user who shared the fake post. The user Rajeev Tewary, a resident of Dhanbad, has hidden most of his information. Conclusion: Vishvas News found in its investigation that the viral claim is false. The person in the picture is not Ram Gopal Mishra, but a journalist Raghavendra Shukla. Raghavendra himself has confirmed that the picture is of him and he is alive and healthy. - Claim Review : Photo of Ram Gopal Mishra, Victim of Bahraich Violence - Claimed By : Facebook user Rajeev Tewary - Fact Check : False Know the truth!
