What's the context?: According to reports, a 20-year-old female student allegedly died by suicide at her hostel room, which sparked protests on the campus.
The protesting students alleged that the university authorities had taken no action when the victim had flagged harassment by her batchmate to the International Relations Office (IRO).
The accused has been identified as one Advik Srivastava, a resident of Lucknow.
What's the truth?: The claim is false as the man seen in the viral image confirmed that he has no connection to the accused.
What led us to the truth?: We searched for the username seen in the viral image on Facebook and found the same profile of Manoj K Srivastava.
The account's bio identified him as the National President of Bharatiya Kesariya Vahini.
According to Srivastava's Facebook profile, he is a resident of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
Srivastava denied viral claims: On going through his Facebook handle, we post a clip posted on 18 February.
In this clip, he could be heard talking about the case and refuted the viral claim of the accused being his son. He added that no son of his studies at any engineering university in Odisha.
Srivastava further clarified that he has no connection with the accused.
The clip was shared with a caption that loosely translated, "Advik Srivastava, who was caught as a suspect in the death of a student in Orissa, is being falsely publicised by the media as my son, which is absolutely wrong. An unsuccessful attempt is being made to tarnish my name and our years of social reputation..."
