  • Did Elon Musk tweet "Anyone protesting the Trump Administration will be suspended from X"? No, that's not true: There is no record that Musk, the owner of the X platform, ever posted this message on his official X account @ElonMusk, according to a search of the site. Had he made such a statement, it would be easily found and news outlets would have covered his decision. The claim appeared in a post (archived here) where it was published on X on February 3, 2025. It opened: Anyone protesting the Trump Administration will be suspended from X. All anti-Trump drama can go to a liberal echo chamber like Threads, Reddit, Bluesky, Instagram and Facebook. This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing: (Source: X screenshot taken on Tue Feb 4 19:18:46 2025 UTC) Lead Stories searched for the phrase "Anyone protesting the Trump Administration will be suspended from X" (archived here) on Musk's X account and did not find any matching posts, as this screenshot shows: (Source: X screenshot taken on Tue Feb 4 19:23:11 2025 UTC) The posted image of Musk's supposed words did not show the date or time that he posted the purported message, unlike usual shared tweets. There also were no replies to this purported Musk message, as the X search above shows. A Google search for the phrase "Anyone protesting the Trump Administration will be suspended from X" limited to links containing X.com/elonmusk using the "site:" search operator returned no results, indicating Google didn't recently index such a post, as this screenshot shows: (Source: Google screenshot taken on Tue Feb 4 19:35:34 2025 UTC) All screenshots of the supposed post showed exactly the same background, as this search (archived here) on X shows. If the post had been real the expectation would be that there were more screenshots circulating showing different view counts and/or layouts (night vs. day mode, mobile vs. web interface). A Google search of keywords returned no credible reports that Musk had made the posted statement. Had he done so, it would have been national and international news. Additional Lead Stories fact checks of claims about Elon Musk can be read here.
