  • Does a video show President-elect Donald Trump supporting Georgia state Sen. Colton Moore after his arrest on January 16, 2025? No, that's not true: The video where Trump praises Moore was originally posted on Trump's official Facebook account in late August 2023, predating Moore's arrest by nearly six months. It has nothing to do with Moore's arrest in January 2025. The claim appeared in a post and video (archived here) published on X by talk show host Steve Gruber on January 16, 2025. The video's caption said: 🚨🚨🚨🚨BREAKING: Trump jumps in the fight! Moore tried to enter the Chamber but was physically blocked. They stationed cops and guards outside the door, and when he tried to get in, they wrestled him to the ground (LITERAL ASSAULT). This is what the post looked like on X at the time of writing: (Source: X screenshot taken on Fri Jan 17 16:49:03 2025 UTC) This post provided no evidence to support the assertion that the video shows Trump supporting Moore after his arrest in January 2025. The arrest State troopers arrested Moore after a scuffle with Georgia House employees when he tried to enter (archived here) the state House chamber during a speech by Gov. Brian Kemp, reported the Associated Press (archived here). Moore, a Republican state senator, was banned from the House in 2024 for insulting a late House speaker during a tribute. The video The Trump video used in the January 2025 social media post was taken from a post and video (archived here) made initially to Trump's official Facebook account on August 31, 2023. The post's caption said: Highly respected Georgia State Senator Colton Moore deserves the thanks & congratulations of everyone. This is what the post looked like on Facebook at the time of writing: (Source: Facebook screenshot taken on Fri Jan 17 17:24:55 2025 UTC) The first 17 seconds of the old video were combined with a video of Moore's 2025 arrest to create the social media post of Trump purportedly praising the Georgia state senator following his arrest. The original August 2023 video came about two weeks after Trump and 18 of his allies (archived here) were charged in Fulton County, Georgia, over their alleged efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state.
