In the original video, PM Modi can be seen greeting the outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind with folded hands during the event. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The viral video is trimmed. In the original video, Modi can be seen greeting the outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind with folded hands during the event. A ceremony to bid farewell to the outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind was held at Parliament's Central Hall on July 23. Esteemed dignitaries including Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla attended the ceremony along with members of the Parliament. Soon after this farewell function, a six-second-long video clip of the event began to circulate on social media along with the claim that the Prime Minister ignored Kovind and did not greet him. In the viral clip, Ram Nath Kovind can be seen approaching the Prime Minister with folded hands but Narendra Modi did not even look at him. “Photoshoot is more important than expressing gratitude to the first person of the country.”, wrote some Twitter users in the caption, while some users wrote on Facebook, “When ‘Photograph’ is more important than the outgoing ‘President’”. Even verified users and political leaders like Sanjay Singh and Virendra Chaudhary have Tweeted the viral video. AAP leader Sanjay Singh wrote in Hindi, which translates to “Such an insult. Very Sorry Sir. These people are like this, your term is over, now they will not even look at you.” “The word camerajeevi is not unparliamentary. Where is your attention, Modi ji? I am here," Congress leader Vireandra Chaudhary wrote on his Twitter post. India Today Anti Fake News War Room ( AFWA) has found that the viral video is trimmed. In the original video, Modi can be seen greeting Ram Nath Kovind during the latter’s farewell event in the Parliament. AFWA probe Since the farewell of Ram Nath Kovind in Parliament was a recent event, finding out the original video was not difficult. We found the original video of the farewell ceremony of the outgoing President uploaded on the YouTube Channel, Narendra Modi on July 23. In the original video, Ram Nath Kovind is seen greeting the guests with folded hands. When he greeted the Prime Minister the same way, Narendra Modi responded respectfully with the same gesture and a smile. As Kovind went on to greet and talk to other dignitaries, the PM looked on to the other side. This entire sequence can be seen on the YouTube channel of Sansad TV as well. The interaction between Kovind and the PM happens at 00:58 timestamp. But the viral clip has been deliberately forked out from the longer video to give the wrong context. A photograph of PM Modi greeting Kovind at the event was tweeted from the official handle of the President of India as well. President Ram Nath Kovind attended the farewell function in the Central Hall of Parliament today. Details: https://t.co/cu7Gsg4wGj pic.twitter.com/CvCZzgwdDZ — President of India (@rashtrapatibhvn) July 23, 2022 Per news reports, in his farewell speech Ram Nath Kovind thanked the Prime Minister. He was also felicitated with a farewell dinner at PM Modi’s residence on July 22. So, it is clear that an edited clip of the Prime Minister has gone viral with a misleading claim that he ignored the retiring President by not greeting him.
