  • Fact Check: Joe Biden was not greeted with derogatory chants in Hawaii, this audio has been altered Angry protestors raised slogans against Biden in Hawaii, but this viral clip's audio has been manipulated. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check Although Biden faced protests from some locals, the audio of the viral video is digitally manipulated. Devastating wildfires in Hawaii, predominantly on the island of Maui, prompted US President Joe Biden to visit the affected areas to assess the extent of the damage on August 21. The wildfires claimed at least 115 victims. Reportedly, more than 850 people were still missing at the time of writing this. Biden’s arrival in the state was reportedly met with chants of protest. According to the New York Post, a group of protesters voiced their dissatisfaction with the government's approach to managing the wildfires, and even shouted, “Go home, Joe.” Now, a video of the US president walking alongside First Lady Jill Biden has gone viral on social media. In the video, people could be heard making derogatory remarks about Biden. "Sleepy Joe landed in Hawaii. The entire population there are shouting - Fk Joe Biden,” wrote a Twitter user sharing the video. Its archived version can be seen here. India Today found that the audio in the viral video has been manipulated. Our Probe A reverse search of the keyframes from the viral video led us to an extended version of the clip of Biden's visit to Hawaii, which was uploaded to the YouTube channel of the Washington Post. This footage featured Joe Biden's address, followed by a speech by Hawaii Governor Josh Green. The part that went viral came around the one-minute-twenty-second mark in the video. However, in this version, no such chants or slogans could be heard. Notably, the audio in this video largely leans toward the quieter side. Afterwards, we conducted further keyword searches and discovered a similar video posted on the official Facebook page of ABC's World News Now. In this version, the ambient sounds were distinctly audible as Joe and Jill Biden walked alongside Governor Green and his wife Ushiroda Green. In this video, the distinct sounds of people chattering could also be heard. The absence of any derogatory chants or slogans, as heard in the viral video, however, made it clear that the audio was altered.
