  • A rumor erupted online in mid-February 2025 that a woman announced on social media that she planned to divorce her husband because he booed pop star Taylor Swift when she appeared on a Jumbotron at Super Bowl LIX. Swift was at the game to support her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Multiple users across social media platforms like X (archived), Facebook In the video, the woman said: I'm divorcing my husband because he booed Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl. I still don't think he believes me, to be honest, but he might want to start. Because I just filed my paperwork at the courthouse and you can see right here. The date of separation is this year's Super Bowl. I'm not just doing this because of the action of booing. I am doing this because of everything it represents in our relationship. I have loved Taylor Alison Swift since I was 12 years old. My husband even likes her too. Like, he'll put on her music when we're cooking together, he has a favorite song. It's "Girl at Home." But we were at the Super Bowl. It was me, him, and five of his buddies, and when they put Taylor up on the Jumbotron, all of his buddies started booing and my husband joined in. And that just tells me everything I need to know about that man because he didn't care that that would hurt my feelings. He just wanted to fit in with his boys. He didn't even care that that's not how he actually feels. He just wanted to look cool, I guess. And that's not a man. That's a boy. And when you see that, you can't really unsee it. So I'm divorcing him. Thankfully, I have a prenup. I'll be retaining all of my assets as well as the assets that I inherited with peace and love. He probably will not be returning to the Super Bowl anytime soon, so that's one less booer for you, Taylor, I love you. Despite the intense reaction online, the claim that this woman divorced her husband for booing Swift at the Super Bowl originated as satire. The woman behind the @loulouorange account was Louisa Melcher, a social media comedian who built her following posting long and elaborate stories meant to blur the line between reality and fiction, often about herself. Melcher's social media presence has been full of similarly colorful stories delivered with a straight face. Many of those stories contained wildly inconsistent details about her personal life. For example, three days prior to the post about divorcing her husband, Melcher posted a video (archived) claiming she "flew to Los Angeles to visit my bf for Valentine's Day." Melcher's regular viewers appeared to understand that her stories were works of fiction meant to go viral and spark conversation, despite her deadpan presentation and the lack of any explicit disclaimer. For instance, in October 2024 she posted a video (archived) about petty drama at her high school, which prompted one user to comment, "I FALL FOR YOUR VIDEOS EVERY SINGLE TIME." Melcher's bio on her social media pages included the slogan "Honesty Integrity Truth" along with an email address for The Gold Studios, a talent agency that represents social media content creators. Melcher was the first client listed on the agency's talent page. The Gold Studios' website read: With the digital landscape constantly evolving, we are always looking for the next digital entertainers that are dominating or have the potential to dominate. Whilst finding the next big thing, we are obsessed with developing some of the more talented entertainers to help them reach their potential. We do this through strategic content planning, IP licensing, and even talent-ventures. In a section about brand partnerships, the agency's website also highlighted a sponsored video Melcher produced promoting the Liquid Death beverage company. (The Gold Studio) A November 2023 The Gold Studio LinkedIn post (archived) about the partnership read in part: Louisa essentially is the most 'believable storyteller' out there. Why? Well, because she can legitimately come up with the craziest stories and deliver them in a way that honestly makes you think, "Hold on… did that actually happen?" The video Melcher created for the partnership was an obviously fictional yarn about becoming the first human to become "100% water." It had over 1 million views as of this writing. One of Melcher's most viewed videos on TikTok (archived) was a story in which she claimed to be a roller skater who fell off the stage during Usher's performance at Super Bowl LVIII in 2024. That video had over 54 million views as of this writing. We've previously looked into other claims involving Swift that began as satire, including a false rumor that the National Football League banned her from attending games because she was "too distracting."
