The Claim According to an Instagram post, chanting the Vitthal mantra everyday can prevent heart attacks and cure heart problems. Fact Check In an era where health misinformation can spread rapidly through social media, it’s extremely important to scrutinise claims that lack scientific backing. What does the word ‘Vitthal’ mean? The term “Vitthal” refers to a Hindu deity who is a form of Lord Vishnu, particularly worshipped in Maharashtra, India. Vitthal, also known as Vithoba or Panduranga, is the central figure of devotion in the Bhakti movement. Devotees often engage in practices such as chanting his name, singing devotional songs, and participating in pilgrimages to his temples. Does chanting “Vitthal” have the ability to cure heart problems? No, chanting the Vitthal mantra cannot prevent heart attacks. No scientific studies or clinical trials support the notion that chanting the name Vitthal can prevent heart attacks or prevent heart diseases. Heart disease comprises a range of conditions, including coronary artery disease, heart attacks, arrhythmias, and heart failure. All of these require medical diagnosis and treatment. Still, we must reiterate that you should not rely solely on chanting mantras to cure health problems. What should you do to keep your heart healthy? Maintaining heart health requires a simple lifestyle changes, based on scientific evidence: - Diet: Focus on a diet high in fibre and low in saturated fats, trans fats, and cholesterol.
