A quick reverse search of the viral video keyframes led us to its longer version shared on YouTube in January 2018 by “SRLW Assad Crimes Archive”, a channel that documents “violations and massacres against the humanity in Syria” through translation of existing videos. This longer version had the same French subtitles as seen in the viral video. The video’s title noted that the boy was Syrian.
Syrian news website “zamanalwsl.net” published a report about this video on August 16, 2017. Per the report, the child being interviewed in the video was 12-year-old Ahmed from Hama, Syria, who worked as a tyre mechanic.
In the video, Ahmed reportedly said that he and his family were displaced from the Kafr Nabudah town and that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s army had been bombing them since then. He also said that the army killed his brother, his grandfather, and his maternal uncles. The report attributed this video to “Shaam News Network”. On SNN’s official YouTube channel, we found the video shared on July 27, 2016.
To sum it up, an old video from Syria is being falsely shared in the context of the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
