  • FACT CHECK: Did Federal Agents Get Into A Gunfight With Marines At The Federal Reserve On November 8? A post shared on Facebook purports federal agents engaged in a gunfight with U.S. Marines at the Federal Reserve Bank in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 8. Verdict: False The claim stems from a satirical website. There is no evidence such an event occurred at the Federal Reserve. Fact Check: The Federal Reserve’s Vice Chair for Supervision, Michael Barr, expressed his concerns about cryptocurrency and other financial systems without “good visibility” Tuesday before the Senate Banking Committee, Reuters reported. Barr’s comments follow the Fed’s recent decision to raise interest rates by 0.75 percentage points, making its short-term borrowing rate fall between 3.75 and 4 percent, according to CNBC. The Facebook post purports federal agents and U.S. Marines engaged in a gunfight at the Federal Reserve Bank in D.C. on Nov. 8. The caption alleges the incident occurred after a large wall appeared around the reserve, claiming the reason was to hide revelations that it was minting money intended for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The claim is false. There are no credible news reports suggesting the supposed gunfight occurred. Likewise, neither the Federal Reserve Bank nor the Marine Corps has mentioned the claim via their respective websites or verified social media accounts. The White House also has not publicly commented on the claim. A keyword search reveals the claim stems from a Nov. 14 article published on the website “Real Raw News.” A disclaimer included on the website’s “About Us” page indicates it contains “humor, parody, and satire.” (RELATED: Did The Federal Reserve Put Up Walls Around Its Building Ahead Of The 2022 Midterms?) Check Your Fact has contacted U.S. Marine Corps and Federal Reserve Bank spokespersons for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received. This is not the first time the military has been the subject of a satirical claim. Check Your Fact previously debunked a post claiming top military leaders apologized for questioning the 2020 presidential election following the 2022 midterm elections.
