The post is claimed to be in the format of a news from one of the Marathi newspapers. It is claimed in the post that Nitin Gadkari suggested construction of downhill roads as an alternative to the fuel price hike. Vishvas News in its investigation found the news to be fake. Claim: Facebook page ‘Political METRO’ posted the viral post and wrote in Marathi, “परत येताना गाडी उचलून आणायची का?? एक शंका फक्त“ Translation: Should we carry the vehicle during the return journey. The post has over 90 shares. Check the post and its archive version here. Investigation: Vishvas News started the investigation in the post by searching the post on the website of Marathi daily, Loksatta. Vishvas News did not find any such report on the portal. Since the statement is attributed to Union minister, Nitin Gadkari we also checked for reports on other media websites, since if the minister himself gave the statement it would have become a news. Vishvas News did not find any news report that proved the viral statement to be true. We hence searched for the Twitter handle of the Loksatta daily. We found a tweet that clarified that Loksatta did not carry any such news. Translation: Attention readers. No such news was done by Loksatta. This image is created using editing tools. Vishvas News reached out to ANI correspondent of Nagpur, Saurabh Joshi. He confirmed that Union minister has not given the viral statement. He also said that he did not say this even during his online or offline events. Vishvas News then did the social background check of the post that shared the viral post. It was found that the page is liked by 96,108 people and 1,68,067 people follow this page. Conclusion: The post attributed to Union minister Nitin Gadkari claiming that he suggested construction of downhill roads to tackle fuel hike problem is fake.
