People are claiming that Urmila is the niece of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s chief, Mohan Bhagwat. When Vishvas News investigated, we found the post to be misleading. It is true that Urmila’s husband’s name is Mohsin Akhtar, but it is completely fake that Urmila is a relative of Mohan Bhagwat. Claim Facebook user Sonu Buddh posted a picture on July 25, 2021, and wrote: ‘Mohan Bhagwat ji..! Why didn’t Hinduism come under threat when your niece married a Muslim..?’ The archived version of the Facebook post can be seen here. Investigation Vishvas News first started its investigation by searching the image using the Google Reverse Image Search Tool. We came to know that the viral image was published on the Indian Express website on May 25, 2016. It can be read here. Similarly, news published on Jagran.com on March 6, 2016, revealed that Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar has married Mohsin Akhtar Mir, a Kashmiri businessman and model by profession. Read full news here. Vishvas News directly contacted Urmila Matondkar. She told us, “I am not related to Mohan Bhagwat Ji in any way. My husband is a Muslim and I am a Hindu.” Vishvas News also contacted Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Sangh’s co-promotional chief Narendra Kumar told that Urmila Matondkar is not Mohan Bhagwat’s niece. We scanned the profile of the Facebook user Sonu Buddh who shared the viral post. We found that this user had created this account in September 2013. Conclusion: When Vishvas News investigated, we found the post to be misleading. It is true that Urmila’s husband’s name is Mohsin Akhtar, but it is completely fake that Urmila is a relative of Mohan Bhagwat. - Claim Review : Mohan Bhagwat ji..!
