  • In its investigation, Vishvas News discovered that this video is a deepfake, where Biden’s lip movement and his voice have been altered . The original date back to July 15, 2024, when Biden addressed the public after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. New Delhi (Vishvas News). On July 21, 2024, US President Joe Biden announced that he would not seek re-election and would withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Following this, a video clip of Biden is going viral where he can be seen using abusive language. The video is viral with the claim that it shows Biden’s first public address after he decided to step back from the presidential election. In its investigation, Vishvas News found that this audio is a deepfake, created using an AI-generated audio clone of Joe Biden’s voice. The original video is from July 15, 2024, when Biden addressed the public following an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. X user ‘pawan‘ shared the viral post and wrote, “Breaking Now: President Joe Biden makes his first video address following dropping out of the Presidential race.” Check the archived version of the post here. To begin our investigation, we first checked the viral video properly. The logo of PSB News is visible on the bottom left of the video. We searched with keywords and found a tweet from PSB News dated July 22, 2024. The tweet clarified that the video is a deepfake, stating: “A deep fake video of President Joe Biden featuring our logo is circulating on social media. President Biden did not make this statement. PBS News did not authorise the use of this video, and we do not condone the alteration of news video or audio in any manner that could mislead the audience.” After this, we started searching for the original video and the full video was uploaded on The White House’s YouTube channel on July 15, 2024. In this video, Biden condemned the attack on former President Donald Trump. We contacted our Deepfake Analysis Unit or DAU (an initiative of Misinformation Combat Alliance) regarding the video, and after checking this video on AI checking tools, Hive Moderation, and Locus, experts found this audio to be synthetic. As far as the visuals are concerned, Hive Moderation marked the visuals shown in the video as deepfake and TruMedia also showed the possibility of AI in the video. We also consulted AI expert Azhar Machwe, who confirmed it to be a deepfake. In our investigation of the X user who shared the fake post, we found that ‘pawan’ is followed by more than 2000 people. Conclusion: In its investigation, Vishvas News discovered that this video is a deepfake, where Biden’s lip movement and his voice have been altered . The original date back to July 15, 2024, when Biden addressed the public after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Knowing the truth is your right.
