A number pf social media posts claim that quail eggs can cure tuberculosis. We fact-checked and found that the claim is mostly false.
The Claim
“Did you know you can use quail eggs to cure tuberculosis? Tuberculosis is a stubborn and wicked cough and can send victim to early grave if proper medication is not applied. Many people have spent a lot of money looking for the cure for tuberculosis some have sold their properties just to get cure but unfortunately for them they could not get cure. The wonderful God has provided solution in the patient of tuberculosis through the Japanese quail eggs,” shares a Facebook post that further asks users to join a private class on WhatsApp to learn more. The post can be seen here.

Fact Check
Are Quail eggs healthy?
Yes. Quail eggs contain high nutritional contents of amino acids, fatty acids, vitamin E, sex hormone P and minerals of nitrogen, iron and zinc.
The most essential and trace minerals of whole eggs were nitrogen and iron. Iron was high content in egg whites meanwhile nitrogen and zinc were found high in egg yolks.
Can Quail eggs cure Tuberculosis?
No. There is no scientific evidence that quail eggs can cure Tuberculosis (TB).
There have been some researches done to test the ability of Quail eggs to control diabetes, however we could not find any research that studies the efficacy of Quail eggs in directly treating the Tuberculosis.
That said, nutrient rich quail eggs may still be beneficial for preventing Tuberculosis or treating a TB patient, along with regular treatments and medications.
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). However, not everyone exposed to the bacteria develops TB. The WHO also recognizes that immunity plays a role in preventing tuberculosis. There have been some evidence that people following vegetarian diet are at a higher risk of developing Tuberculosis.
The treatment for TB is long term which includes multiple medications including long term usage of antibiotics. A good diet can help in the treatment procedure. Tuberculosis patients are often found to be low on serum albumin, a type of protein often present in egg yolks.
However, the general nutritional benefits are not exclusive to Quail egg and can be obtained from many other good diet.
A social media post also claims that if an egg is consumed with bacon or tea, it can lead to death.
Voomika Mukherjee, Health & Nutrition Life Coach, says, “There is not much research which claims that Quail eggs cure tuberculosis. But it has hepatoprotective properties, meaning they are good for liver health and are known to protect the liver from damage by stabilizing the levels of liver transaminases: ALP, ALT and TP and reducing the degeneration of liver tissues. Quail eggs are nutritionally healthy especially in terms of anti-oxidants, selenium, calcium, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus. It is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids and anti-oxidants which helps one gain immunity. Also, quail eggs are said to be a 100 per cent natural source of iron and hence are good in anaemic cases.”
