  • Fact Check: No, this cobra doesn't aim to become LIC agent. It visited a hospital Not from Mumbai's LIC office, this video turned out to be from a hospital in Bilaspur. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video is from 2022 and shows a rescuer holding a snake at a hospital in Bilaspur. A video making the rounds on social media featured a woman holding a huge snake and a group of people recording videos of it on their smartphones. Allegedly, this snake was caught in the offices of the Life Insurance Corporation of India in Mumbai. One such Facebook post read: “Mumbai: LIC corporate office record room. A king cobra paid a surprise visit to inspect how well the old record was kept there. The brave firewoman got its custody. Salute to the officer.” India Today Fact Check found that this video is neither recent nor from Mumbai. It shows a 2022 incident at a hospital in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Our Probe A keyword search led us to a post by the official X account of LIC India from November 8, 2022. The post read: “It has come to our notice that a video is in circulation showing a snake caught in the record room of the Corporate Office of LIC Of India, Mumbai. We confirm that no such incident has happened and the video is fake.” Further searches led us to an extended version of the viral video, shared on the YouTube channel “Kamal Choudhary Snake Rescue Team Bilaspur”. The channel is run by Kamal Choudhary, a snake rescuer based in Bilaspur, who has shared several such videos featuring the same woman seen in the viral clip. The video contained two clips: the viral video and another clip shot from a different angle. The woman can be seen handing over the stick holding the snake to one of the men present there. In the second clip, we noticed a blue board on top of a door that read “Dr Rashmi Budhia”. With the help of a Google search, we found out that Rashmi Budhia is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Budhia Hospital — a hospital located in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Around November 2022, several people shared this video on social media, stating that a snake was caught at the Budhia Hospital of Bilaspur. It is thus clear that a 2022 video from Bilaspur was falsely shared as a recent incident in Mumbai’s LIC office.
