The video has been digitally altered from an interview Thunberg did with BBC in 2022.
Fact Check:
At least 1,400 Israelis, 5,087 Palestinians and 33 Americans have been killed so far in the Israel-Hamas conflict, according to Fox News. The International Monetary Fund stated that the conflict is likely to affect neighboring economies in the Middle East such as Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan, CNN reported.
The X post purports Thunberg suggested “sustainable tanks” in order to fight climate change. The video appears to show Thunberg making these claims while promoting an alleged new book titled “Vegan Wars” in an interview with The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Thunberg appears to say, “War is always bad, specifically for the planet. If we want to continue fighting battles, like environmentally conscious humans, we must make the change to sustainable tanks and weaponry.” She also mentions battery-powered fighter jets with biodegradable missiles and “vegan grenades.”
This video has been digitally altered, however. The edited video was originally posted to YouTube by an account called Snicklink, whose logo can be seen in the bottom right, and is labeled as satire. The genuine video is a BBC interview with Thunberg uploaded in November 2022 and shows Thunberg discussing climate anxiety and promoting her book “The Climate Book,” not “Vegan Wars” as the post suggested.
There are no credible news reports about Thunberg making these statements. Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports about Thunberg writing a book called “Vegan Wars.” (RELATED: Did Greta Thunberg Say Saving The Banks Would Save The World)
A spokesperson for Thunberg’s media team denied the authenticity of the video in an email to Check Your Fact.
