It’s a three-year-old incident. Jewish protesters burned the flag to protest the killing of a 19-year-old Ethiopian-Jewish teenager.
Hundreds of Jewish protesters staged a sit-in at Capitol Hill in the US, demanding action from the Joe Biden administration for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Now, a video allegedly showing Jewish people burning an Israeli flag amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, has surfaced on social media. In the video, many people, some dressed in traditional orthodox Jewish attires, could be seen burning the "Star of David" flag while chanting slogans. Many social media users claimed that this incident occurred in New York.

Our Probe
By reverse searching the keyframes of the viral video, we found a Turkish media report containing a screenshot from this clip. The report, titled "Ultra-Orthodox Jews burned the Israeli flag," was published on July 4, 2019. Per the report, Orthodox Jews burned the Israeli flag after the killing of an unarmed Ethiopian-Jewish teenager by the Israeli police.
The report mentioned that the 19-year-old Israeli citizen, Solomon Tekah, lost his life to gunfire from an off-duty police officer in Kiryat Haim in northern Israel. Another news article from around the same time reported nationwide demonstrations in Israel protesting the killing.
Many in Israel, particularly among Ethiopian-Israelis and their supporters, took to the streets to protest what they called "deeply ingrained racism" and "discrimination" within Israeli society.
Notably, certain sections of the Orthodox Jewish community reject the State of Israel and oppose Zionism. They believe that a Jewish state should only be established after the arrival of the Jewish Messiah. And these groups routinely burn the Israeli flag.
However, it’s clear that the viral video is old and not related to the recent Israel-Hamas conflict.
