  • FACT CHECK: Video Shows Prisoners Celebrating Assad Regime Downfall, Not Palestinians Celebrating Ceasefire A video shared on X claims to show Palestinians celebrating the ceasefire. When the Palestinian hostages, abductees and political prisoners heard of the ceasefire, the occupations prison camps erupted with joy! pic.twitter.com/fUzKH8btaD — Nadira Ali🇵🇸 (@Nadira_ali12) January 17, 2025 Verdict: Misleading The video shows prisoners celebrating the fall of the Bashar Assad regime. Fact Check: The first Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners were exchanged between Hamas and Israel as the ceasefire deal came into effect on Jan. 19, according to NPR. (RELATED: No, Firefighters In LA Are Not Fighting Wildfires Using ‘Handbags’) Social media users are claiming to show Palestinians celebrating the ceasefire while in prison. One user wrote, “When the Palestinian hostages, abductees and political prisoners heard of the ceasefire, the occupations prison camps erupted with joy!” This claim is misleading. Check Your Fact found the video through a reverse image search. The video was originally published by Asas Media and shows prisoners in Lebanon celebrating the fall of the Syrian regime. “In Roumieh prison at night. Prisoners chanting Takbeers from inside Roumieh prison in Lebanon after the Syrian opposition took control of the city of Homs,” reads the post. The video is from December 2024, while the ceasefire deal came into effect in January 2025, therefore making it impossible for the video to show people celebrating the ceasefire deal. Syrian rebels overthrew the Syrian regime of dictator Bashar Assad in the last weeks of 2024, according to PBS. Misbar also debunked this claim.
