An image which looks like a cheese product by Amul is being shared virally on social media with the claim that Cheese named as Sharam has been released by Amul. The captions on the posts go ‘Ab Sharam naam ki cheese bazaar mein milti hai. Thanks Amul’. Fact check: The claim is False. The image does not show the real Amul product, it is an AI generated image. When we searched on Google with the keywords ‘Amul Sharam cheese’, we found news articles stating that Amul has refuted the claims. According to livemint.com, Amul company has posted a message on social media site X (formerly Twitter) stating: "Issued in public interest by Amul: This is for your kind information that a fake message is being forwarded on WhatsApp and Social Media platforms regarding new type of Amul Cheese. The creator of the post has made the creative and posted this without any authorization from Amul." According to Indiatimes.com, after amul clarified that the image is fake, X user named Ankit Sawant admitted to have created the image and tweeted that he did not intend to spread fake news. His tweet stated “Not something which I intended. I am sorry @Amul_Coop. Took me a min to make this, makes me realise how terrifyingly simple it is to create fake news!” Therefore, the viral image is AI generated visual and not an original Amul product. The claim is False.
