  • Last Updated on September 13, 2023 by Neelam Singh Quick Take A social media post claims that COVID is not real and there is no new variant of it. We fact-checked and found the claim to be False. The Claim An Instagram post claims that there is no emergence of a new COVID variant. It further claims that there are no new variants of COVID-19. In fact, it never experienced widespread transmission to begin with. COVID-19 is, in essence, a collection of symptoms attributed to SARS-CoV-2. The statement also claims that there exists no scientific proof for the claim that SARS-CoV-2 is responsible for any form of illness, and the existence of SARS-CoV-2 itself. COVID-19, both in the past and the present is not real. The post has received 364 likes till we last checked. Also, we have attached the screenshot of the post below: Fact Check Is it true that COVID-19 is not real? No. The claim made in the Instagram post is not accurate and is not supported by scientific evidence. COVID-19 is indeed real and has not disappeared. There is substantial scientific evidence to confirm its existence and its impact on public health worldwide. In 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared COVID-19 a pandemic. As of September 2023, there have been a total of 770,437,327 confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide. Additionally, there is evidence demonstrating the impact of COVID-19 on the population of India. Since 2020, we have published evidence that informs a lot about COVID-19 and the virus that causes it, SARS-CoV-2. Scientists from around the world have isolated the virus and decoded its genetic blueprint. They have also informed us that. It enters the body through respiratory droplets, attaches to cells in the respiratory tract, and uses them to replicate. This process leads to the release of new virus particles that can infect other cells, causing symptoms and allowing transmission to others. Vaccines and preventive measures help control the spread and severity of the disease. Furthermore, our research shows that new variants of COVID-19 have emerged. Contrary to the claim that there are no new variants, multiple sources have reported the discovery of new COVID-19 variants in recent months. Our recent fact-check identified a rising variant called Pirola and exposed the spread of misinformation about it on social media. We debunked the notion that the CDC stated a new COVID variant is more contagious among vaccinated individuals.
