Claim :
Video showing school children using thermocol boxes to go to school is from Madhya Pradesh, IndiaFact :
Video is not from Madhya Pradesh, India. It is from Sumatra, IndonesiaRecent heavy rainfall and floods in India have impacted several states, causing widespread disruption to normal life. Himachal Pradesh and Odisha are the states that have recently been affected by severe flooding, along with other states like West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, etc. Flash floods triggered by a cloudburst wreaked havoc in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi town, killing three people, burying more than 20 vehicles, and inundating several houses. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for 34 districts of Madhya Pradesh. According to the IMD, extremely heavy rainfall is likely in 14 districts, while 20 districts may experience heavy showers. Rajasthan has received nearly 88 percent more rainfall than normal so far this monsoon.
Meanwhile, a video showing children in their school uniforms in a thermocol box each, and rowing across water is going viral on social media, claiming that the video shows the plight of school children in Madhya Pradesh, India. Some users shared the video with the caption in Hindi “यह वीडियो मध्य प्रदेश का है, जिसमें कई बच्चे थर्माकोल में बैठकर स्कूल जाते दिख रहे हैं.” When translated, it claims, “This video is from Madhya Pradesh, in which many children are seen going to school sitting in thermocol.”

Fact check:
When we extracted the keyframes from the viral video and searched using reverse image search, we found an Instagram post shared in September 2021 with the caption in the Indonesian language. The caption on the video states that the video is from South Sumatra in Indonesia.
According to Kompas.com, the video shows three children rowing using a white, square-shaped styrofoam. The location of the river is in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency, South Sumatra. They are students of SDN 1 Kuala 12, Tulung Selapan District, who want to cross the river. Residents who watched the video were worried because rowing using only styrofoam is very dangerous. Children in the village are dropped off and picked up by their parents using a boat or speedboat. However, sometimes children refuse to be taken and choose to cross the river on styrofoam.
We also found a YouTube video published by Kompas.com, on September 25, 2021, with the title “Elementary School Students in South Sumatra Cross Rivers Using Styrofoam to Get to School”. The description of the video states, ‘A video that has gone viral on social media shows three boys in elementary school uniforms using styrofoam to cross a river. In the video, the three children are seen in small white styrofoam boxes. The video is accompanied by an explanation that the location is in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency, South Sumatra.’
Hence, the viral video is not from Madhya Pradesh, India, but is an old video from South Sumatra, Indonesia. The claim is False.
