Claim :Oreo constructs an asteroid-proof storage vault Fact :It is true that Oreo constructed a huge storage vault to protect its cookies and recipes. Several people in the world believe that there will be an apocalypse that will end the world. As part of being prepared to face the situation, numerous doomsday bunkers have been constructed around the world. Generally, these bunkers are typically constructed underground using very thick reinforced concrete walls or carved into a mountain with thick steel doors. The threat of asteroids likely to strike the earth which can cause global catastrophe also led to the construction of bunkers, that can protect people, animals and even plant seeds. Meanwhile, a picture showing a huge bunker is viral with a claim that it was built by Oreo to hoard stock of their recipes and Oreo cookies, in case of an apocalypse. Fact Check: The claim is true. Oreo has constructed an asteroid-proof storage facility in Norway. When we performed a keyword search “Oreo asteroid-proof bunker”, we found several reports confirming that Oreo built a concrete vault in Norway to protect its cookies from the apocalypse. According to a report published in Business Insider in November 2020, Oreo created an asteroid-proof vault in Norway to store cookies and their recipe. Oreo was inspired by the Global Seed Vault, a building that holds more than 930,000 types of seeds from around the world. A video posted by the Oreo Cookie YouTube channel shows the vault built by the cookie company in Norway. The description of the video states: “Although we were told asteroid 2018VP1 had virtually no chance of hitting Earth, we couldn’t be sure. We built the Global OREO Vault into the permafrost of Svalbard, Norway with only one purpose: To make sure OREO cookies live on for generations to come.” This video was published in October 2020. The company also tweeted that each cookie pack is wrapped in a protective mylar which can keep cookies safe at temperatures of -80F to 300F. Hence, it is true that Oreo has constructed an asteroid-proof storage vault in Norway to protect its cookies and recipes. The claim is True.
