  • Rahimo FC will be Burkina Faso's representatives in the African Champions League next season after the country's football federation on Tuesday cancelled the 2019-2020 campaign because of the coronavirus. "We will consider the 2019-2020 competitions as having never taken place," the federation said. For the continental competitions, the teams that qualified from the 2018-2019 season -- Rahimo FC in the top-level CAF Champions League and Salitas FC in the Confederations Cup -- will fly the flag for the west African nation next season. The second division had already been completed when the lockdown was imposed so the two teams that won promotion -- Leopards de Saint Camille and Vitesse FC -- will be added to the first division for the 2020-2021 season. But as no teams will be relegated, the top division will grow to 18 teams. The new season is due to kick off on September 4, providing sanitary conditions allow it. Burkina Faso was the first sub-Saharan African country to record a death from COVID-19. The death toll now stands at 46 with 672 cases of infection. ab/de/gj/td
