"There is a fiber cut in Brooklyn," Verizon said in a tweet midday in New York, adding it had no estimate of when the damage might be fixed. Online platforms large and small typically rely on networks such as those of US telecom firm Verizon to route data to enable access to their services. Verizon's own internet, telephone, and television service Fios which operates over fiber-optic cables and boasts more than 5 million customers was also disrupted, according to the company.
