A rocket was fired late Friday from the Gaza Strip towards southern Israel, the Israeli military said, without reporting any casualties or damage. "Terrorists in Gaza just fired one rocket toward Israel," the army said on Twitter. There was no immediate claim of responsibility from the densely-populated Palestinian coastal enclave, which is ruled by the Islamist group Hamas. The last reported rocket attack from Gaza was on October 5. In August, militants launched a string of incendiary balloons and rocket attacks, and Israel launched air strikes on Gaza. Hamas and Israel reached an agreement to cease hostilities in early September, although attacks continued. The deal, mediated by Qatar, aimed to put back on track a fragile Egyptian-brokered truce. Impoverished Gaza has been under a crippling Israeli blockade since 2007. dms/pjm/dwo
