schema:articleBody	Mike McCormick, who became the Giants' franchise first ever Cy Young winner, passed away at his home in North Carolina, the Major League Baseball team announced on Tuesday. He was 81. McCormick died of Parkinson's disease on Saturday, said Giants chief executive Larry Baer. "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mike McCormick, a true gentleman and forever Giant," Baer said in a statement. "Like many Giants fans, I have many fond childhood memories of watching Mike pitch at Candlestick Park and then was blessed to call him my friend these past 30 years." McCormick made up one third of the Giants' 1960s juggernaut pitching trio that also featured Gaylord Perry and Juan Marichal. In 1967, McCormick won the NL Cy Young Award as the division's top pitcher when he recorded 22 wins and just 10 losses with a 2.85 ERA. He started 35 games and had five shutouts. He remained the only Giants pitcher to win the honour until Tim Lincecum did it in 2008. The four-time all-star was a member of the first Giants team to play in San Francisco after the franchise relocated from New York in 1958. The Giants traded him to the Baltimore Orioles in 1962. He also played with the Washington Senators before returning to San Francisco in 1967. He had brief stints with the New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals before retiring in 1971. gph/rcw
