Ineos leader Geraint Thomas fell hard on the third stage of the Tour de France on Monday and only remounted gingerly, looking in great discomfort after holding his shoulder as he rolled on the seafront tarmac. Welshman Thomas was at first left to his own fate by his teammates and was trailing the main pack by three minutes when he set off again. Fellow Welshman Luke Rowe then dropped back in an attempt to help Thomas reel in the peloton. The 2018 champion was 41 seconds off the lead at the start of Monday's largely flat stage from Lorient to Pontivy with showers making the road slick. dmc/lp
