"Some of these Romanian healthcare professionals will help out at the Covid-19 ward of the National Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases in Bratislava," NICD spokeswoman Sona Valasikova said. "As there is a shortage of medical staff, all help is much appreciated and needed," she added. The EU country of 5.4 million, which was largely spared in the first wave of the pandemic last year, now has the world's highest rate of Covid deaths per 100,000 inhabitants over the last 14 days, according to an AFP tally.
