The league announced Thursday that the Vancouver Whitecaps, Montreal Impact and Toronto FC will play one another in their home stadiums, each playing the other two teams three times for a total of six games for each in the regular season. The US-Canada border is closed for non-essential travel until at least August 21. The Canadian return will follow the same strict safety and health protocols as 23 US clubs will abide by, including regular testing of players, coaches and essential staff for COVID-19. The coronavirus shut down the MLS season in March after only two weeks. Most teams added three regular season matches in the MLS is Back Tournament that finished Tuesday in Orlando, Florida, with Portland the champion. MLS resumed the regular season on Wednesday, Nashville beating Dallas in a matchup of teams kept from the tournament due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests. Players and staff for Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver will be tested every other day, including the day before every match. Teams will take chartered flights and matches between Montreal and Toronto will see the visiting club arrive in the host market on matchday and depart after the game.
