| - Senegal is to host a liquid natural gas (LNG) ship that will fuel a floating power generator already in operation, a Turkish-Japanese joint venture said Tuesday. Karmol, owned by the Turkish company Karpowership and Mitsui OSK Lines of Japan, aims to provide countries, particularly in Africa, with cleaner, stable power supplies. Karpowership already supplies around 15 percent of Senegal's electricity with a ship-based power plant, while the Mitsui OSK Lines is a transport specialist. A Karmol statement said its first floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) was set for sea trials, following which it would deploy to Senegal "in the coming weeks," without specifying a date. "Usage of FSRUs means we can unlock the benefits of clean and affordable electricity for millions of people, even where countries have no domestic gas production or infrastructure," the statement quoted Karmol board member Gokhan Kocak as saying. A similar ship was under construction and the company planned to send it to Mozambique, Karmol said. The company aims to provide "LNG-to-power across the world and especially within Africa," it said. eml/wai
