The French economy, Europe's second biggest, is expected to contract sharply in the whole of 2020 as the country returns to lockdown to fight the coronavirus pandemic, Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire said Friday. The government is pencilling in a contraction of 11 percent in gross domestic product across the whole of the year, a slight downward revision from an earlier forecast of 10 percent, Le Maire told France Inter radio, shortly after official figures showed GDP bouncing back by 18 percent in the second quarter. mhc/pn/spm/bp
