Incessant rains in Bengaluru have paralysed the Silicon Valley of India. Social media in the last few days has seen an onslaught of videos and photos that show waterlogged streets and flooded homes in the Karnataka capital. One such video supposedly from Bengaluru shows a crocodile crawling through a waterlogged road.
Many on Facebook shared the video, identifying the location as Bellandur, a suburb in southeast Bangalore.
But is it? AFWA’s investigation found this video is from Madhya Pradesh.

In the comments section of one such post, some people pointed out that the video was from Madhya Pradesh. A subsequent search informed us that this particular video has been on the internet since August this year.
Several news websites had reported this. ETV Bharat uploaded this video on its YouTube channel on August 16, 2022, with the title, “Crocodile enters residential colony in Shivpuri in MP, rescued.”
Per ETV Bharat, a crocodile wandered into a residential colony in Madhya Pradesh's Shivpuri district and was later captured by the rescue team from Madhav National Park after an hour-long operation. It was then released into the Sankhya Sagar Lake.
This incident was also reported by the Times of India, the Hindustan Times and News 18. They all used the same visuals.
Per these reports, the crocodile was eight-foot-long and caused panic among people as it entered a residential area near the old bus stand in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh following heavy monsoon downpours. The crocodile was seen swimming into the area after a nullah overflowed, causing waterlogging.
As floods continue in Bengaluru, many have shared photos of civic volunteers finding catfish in the waterlogged streets.
This too was reported by news websites. However, AFWA did not find any recent news about crocodiles being spotted in Bengaluru.
